| Meet Max |
"Max is ten years old and has been with our family through every aspect of my adult life," says pet parent Alex. "First real love, marriage, first home, and four children. I can't imagine our life without him."
"I truly believe they 'rescued' us."
Alex and her husband have rescued four pets, although, Alex says, "I truly believe they 'rescued' us." Max, an Australian shepherd, was the first. Shortly after Max became part of the family, Alex brought a cat named Tickey home.
A Dog and Cat of the Same Species
Max and Tickey instantly became great friends. "Tickey and Max would play on our bed for HOURS," says Alex, "almost like they were the same species." Then, she continues, "they would collapse in exhaustion curled up together in a ball."
That's No Christmas Gift Under
the Tree!
The two pals are also responsible for their share of mischief. At holiday time about nine years ago, Alex remembers, "we had just put up our Christmas tree. Max and Tickey came barreling through the living room chasing each other and Tickey decided to take cover under the tree." Alex and her husband were standing in the kitchen admiring their beautiful tree."only to watch it come crashing down."
Leader of the Pack
Max is the oldest of the three dogs. "Our other two dogs know he is alpha," Alex says. "Our kids even respect his wise ways."
"He has such a beautiful soul."
His eyes, she explains, "are almost human. When you look at him or talk to him, I know he understands everything you say and do. He has such a beautiful soul."
Because he is an Australian Shepherd, "herding is his instinct," Alex explains. "The kids know when they've gone too far in the yard or the driveway because Max circles their legs and brings them back."
A Companion to the Max
Max not only accompanies the children and keeps them safe when they're playing outside, says Alex, "he goes everywhere with us. "The bus stop in the morning, to get the mail, to watch over the kids when they get home." Something of "an opportunist," according to Alex, "Max is always at our feet for fallen 'goodies' from the counter or stolen snuggles from Mom."
Diving Into Summer
When Alex and her family pack up and head for their summer home every year, "Max knows where we're going. He can barely sit still in the car and when we board the ferry, he stands on his hind feet to look out the window," says Alex. When they arrive and drive onto the beach, "opening the tailgate for him to jump out and swim is the best way to start our summer!"
Max and BLUE
"Our smallest animal companion is a Chihuahua named Bodhi who has food allergies," says Alex. "BLUE has done wonders for all our dogs since we need to feed them the same food. We have them on the fish and sweet potato blend, which they LOVE!! Their coats have never been softer and their energy levels have sky-rocketed! We are huge fans of and believers in BLUE!!"
