Meet Lusha Bella
For pet parent Sarah, bringing a Bullmastiff home was something she had a lot of familiarity with. "We choose Lusha Bella because we love Bullmastiffs, Sarah says. "She is our third Bullmastiff. We like the fact that she is a big dog, very strong but also very loving and laid back. She is a big lump on a log. She never barks unless something is wrong or a stranger is at the door. Bullmastiffs are very protective and, in general, great dogs."

Sarah traveled from Mount Sinai, New York to Massachusetts to get Lusha. "When we finally got our bundle of joy home she was a go-getter", Sarah remembers. "She would love to chase a ball or anything that you can kick. If you tell her, "ready?" she crouches down like she is a lion ready to pounce. Then she would run as fast as she could to get the ball that you just kicked. She is always ready for fun and being outside is one of her favorite things."

Lusha And The Goats And Chickens

Lusha starts her day by rising from her big beanbag after a long night of snoring. "She has breakfast when the kids eat breakfast. We try to eat like a family, Sarah tells. "After the kids go off to school, I grab the bucket so I can fill it with fresh water to give to our goat, Kiuke. Lusha hears the water running in the bucket and she knows that its time to go out and feed the goat and chickens."

"She runs around so excited to do this daily task. We go outside and she chases the chickens. By now, the chickens have learned to ignore Lusha. But the goat looks forward to seeing her. He runs up to the wire fence and rubs his horns on it and tries to head butt Lusha."

But having fun with the goats and chickens is just part of Lusha's day. Sarah shares, "Later in the day, Lusha is called to the front yard where our neighbor's dog, Marley, is barking for her to come and run along the fence with him. So the fun starts again. They run back and forth along the front fence. She will come in and lay in the living room with the warm sun beating in on her belly. She will stay there all afternoon until the kids come home."

Sarah will go out with Lusha and play in the backyard until dinner. After eating dinner, Lusha gets a big rawhide and chews on that while the family watches TV. Before the family goes to bed, Lusha goes out for the last time and its back upstairs to the master bedroom where she lays on her beanbag chair for a good night's rest.

Summer Days At The Log Cabin

"Lusha enjoys coming with us to our summer log cabin in the Adirondacks," Sarah tells. "She is never on a leash. She is a part of the family; she would never want to be away from us so she would never run away. We go for long walks in the woods. She loves to come exploring with us.

"She jumps over fallen trees,
runs through rivers and drinks
water from the streams."

She jumps over fallen trees, runs through rivers and drinks water from the streams. When we return from our walks she climbs under the front porch to lie in the cold dirt, trying to catch her breath after traveling the 90-acre woods. Later in the evening, she enjoys sitting by a campfire and watching us toast marshmallows."

A Bullmastiff Afraid Of Loud Noises?

"You would think that a Bullmastiff who weighs 160lbs. would not be afraid of anything," Sarah jokes. "Well, this big girl is very afraid of loud noises. We have 3 acres and not too many neighbors. But every now and then a big truck will blow its horn or release the air brakes and she will come dashing from wherever she is to the front door. When we see her running for her life, we know that she will come to the front door, scratch at it with her front legs, and, if she could, yell "Let me in!"

Lusha and Blue

"Around 4 months old, Lusha broke out in a rash and lost a lot of her hair," Sarah says. "This happened to our other Bullmastiff, Griffin, so I thought she would have skin problems like him. I went online to find out what I could. I learned that it could be an allergy and to consider feeding her a better dog food like BLUE. The vet gave us the medication for the allergy and it helped her hair loss and her biting and scratching."

"She has a beautiful coat and is very
happy, playful and energetic."

"Lusha was doing so well with BLUE that I was not going to change a good thing", Sarah continues. "She has a beautiful coat and is very happy, playful and energetic. If it weren't for me trying to find out information about her allergies, I may not have found out about BLUE-I am just thankful that I did."
