| Meet Mojo |
For 9-year old Sophia, her first meeting with her Havanese puppy, Mojo, was love at first sneeze.
"The first day we met Mojo, we had to go to the airport in New York because she was coming from Canada," Sophia recalls. "When they gave us the crate, we saw the cutest little puppy inside. When she came out, we all sat on the ground in a circle to let her sniff around us when she was ready. But then I sneezed and she ran right over and started licking me."
"But then I sneezed and she ran right
over and started licking me."
When they took Mojo home, she was still nervous and a little scared. Sophia's family let her run all over the house, although she was too small to climb the stairs. "Now," Sophia says, "she can climb or jump on everything."
The School Bus Stop,
The Neighbor's Dogs and Treats
A typical day for Mojo starts with a trip to Sophia's school bus stop after breakfast. Mojo loves to see all of the kids there. After that, it's back to the house or maybe some playtime with the neighbor's dogs, Jackie and Nyra. "They are both very big dogs," Sophia adds, "so after running around with them, she needs a nap."
When the weather is nice, Mojo will hang out on the family deck and bark at the squirrels. "She chases them sometimes but she never catches them before they run up a tree," Sophia says. "Then she waits for me and my brother to get home from school so she can chase us and get a treat."
When Sophia comes home from school, Mojo will run to find her as soon as she hears the door. She jumps up on Sophia and licks her until she pets her behind the ears and on her belly. "She wants to play right away," says Sophia, "so sometimes we go right outside and chase each other. Even though she has really tiny legs, she can run very fast. She also knows that when we go back inside, that I'll give her a treat."

tiny legs, she can run very fast"
After dinner, Mojo will sit with Sophia and her brother while they watch TV or do their homework. "If we ignore her for too long, she'll woof at us to play with her," Sophia shares.
Mojo on the Trail
Turns out, Mojo is quite the outdoorsy dog. One of her favorite places to visit is the hiking trail in town with Sophia and Sophia's dad. Mojo loves to explore and climb the rocks or walk through the streams. "Sometimes she'll run ahead of us," Sophia remarks, "and sometimes she is behind us. But she is never more than 20 feet away from us."
"Most of these dogs are much bigger,
but Mojo is not afraid"
Along the trail, they see many other hikers with their dogs. "Most of these dogs are much bigger, but Mojo is not afraid," Sophia is proud to mention. "Mojo loves the streams and sometimes she will walk in the water and get all muddy. Sometimes she'll walk on the wooden planks across the stream. We always bring water for her and some treats. Afterward, when we get home, she'll take a long nap and I can tell how happy she is."
Mojo or is it Snojo?
Mojo loves to play in the snow, which is why the family sometimes calls her Snojo. She has been known to roll around on her back like she is doing snow angels.
Sophia recalls one story. "One morning, we woke up after a big blizzard and there were two feet of soft snow on the ground. My dad went outside to begin shoveling the top step just outside the front door but he left the front door open a few inches. He was just finishing the top step when Mojo excitedly ran out, right off the front step."
"...my dad jumped into the snow and
pulled her right out"
Because Mojo is so tiny and the snow was all powder so she completely disappeared from sight. Sophia continues, "My mom and I were watching and, at first, we got so scared, but my dad jumped into the snow and pulled her right out. Then we were laughing so hard and Mojo saw how she was entertaining us, she couldn't wait for all of us to go outside to play in the snow-once my dad cleared a path for us."
Mojo and Blue
Sophia's family used to feed her a different dog food but she would not always eat it. Says Sophia's mom, "she is a picky eater, but when we first served her BLUE for Small Breeds along with the Homestyle Recipe Chicken dinner, she ate the entire bowl. Now, she stands next to me when I am preparing her meal because she can't wait to eat."
Sophia sums up her love for Mojo like this: "She is so excited when we come home and she always wants to play and snuggle with all of us. If I am sad or not feeling well, Mojo will come over and sit with me or lie at the foot of my bed until I feel better. She is the most lovable dog in the world."
