Meet Queen
"I did not choose Queen," says Audrey of her champion show dog. "Queen chose me!

"That sweet little girl with the pink ribbon
came to me and would not leave my side."

"I was not looking for a puppy when I met Queen and her littermates," Audrey explains. "But when I stopped by my friend's, that sweet little girl with the pink ribbon came to me and would not leave my side. I didn't stop thinking about her. She came to our house a few weeks later."

An Easy Climb to the Top

When Queen was a puppy, Audrey thought she was "too small to attempt going up stairs. One day, though, I caught our other dog helping and teaching her how to climb the stairs, giving her little nudges and staying right with her as she maneuvered on up. Another baby gate was put up at the stairs!"

Queen, who has grown into a "magnificent Rottweiler," has been a fast learner ever since.

"Queen has her own scrapbook full of all
her ribbons and show pictures."

When Audrey decided she wanted to show Queen, she also decided to do the training and handling herself. Queen proved a quick study, and today she has "her own scrapbook full of all her ribbons and show pictures."

She's a Champ!

Audrey says, "Our most exciting memory is the day that Queen finished her AKC championship." That's when a dog becomes an American Kennel Club "Champion of Record." It's no easy task. A dog needs 15 points, including two "majors," which are wins of three, four, or five points, appointed by at least three different judges. When Queen completed her requirements, she became Champion (CH) Queen vom Vollenhaus. But everyone still calls her Queen.

Queen is still learning. "We are now teaching Queen other sports and someday hope to add performance titles," says Audrey. Queen has training two nights a week. But when she's not working on her next accomplishment, she and Audrey "play games and generally hang out together."

Mommy and Me Time

"Mornings, says Audrey, "Queen and I like to ease into the day together. I have my cup of coffee and basically lounge for an hour with Queen by my side. This is her Mommy and Me time! She stretches out for her morning tummy rub and a quick snooze."

"Queen is devoted to me, always my
shadow right by my side."

"Evening time she knows I will be home soon," says Audrey. Queen "takes up her position at the window. She is always ready for a meet and greet with her Mom."

"Queen is devoted to me," Audrey says, "always my shadow right by my side. She has been easy to train and always eager to learn new things."

Those things include swimming, although at first "she wasn't too sure about the water," recalls Audrey.

Taking the Plunge

"Queen loves to go to the river and lake," she explains. "Whenever she sees us get out the red harness and long line she knows a special day is in store.

"The first trip to the lake she was not too sure about the water. She stayed at the beach and just waded in a few times. Then she realized there are little creatures along the lake edge and in the shallows. She found tadpoles, frogs, small fish, turtles, and crayfish. It did not take long and she was swimming. We were so surprised the day that she dove under water to follow one of the creatures."

Queen and BLUE

You might think a champion gets very special food - and she does! Audrey explains that BLUE Wilderness dog food "gives us the nutrition we need to keep Queen in peak condition for show and sports."
