| Meet Oliver |
Feeling depressed after the sudden death of her dog, Dante, Ann went online and found a dog named Andy at a nearby animal shelter. Andy needed a home. Ann and her husband needed a dog. And Andy, a black lab, was the perfect color.
Yellow is the New Black
"I have always had black dogs," Ann explains. "The shelter's policy was that the entire family, including any pets, had to be present in order to adopt," Ann recalls. "My husband, my Mom and I went to see if we could find a puppy that we could bond with." When they arrived, one of the workers brought out Andy and his brother. "Much to our surprise," says Ann, "they both were yellow." It seems that the names on the web site were mixed up. But there was no mistake about which dog they would take home.
"It was no contest. We all looked at each
other and said 'we want him."
As soon as the animal shelter worker put the puppies down, Andy's brother Ollie, ran to Ann's husband and kissed him. "Then to Mom and then to me," remembers Ann. "He was so happy. He then went to the community toy chest and proceeded to take out and play with all the toys. He of course shared them with Andy. Then his sister Izzie and brother Charlie came out. It was no contest. We all looked at each other and said 'we want him,' pointing to Ollie."
"I sometimes wonder who saved who."

The Yellow Dog Who Spreads Sunshine
"Ollie is a yellow lab with an awesome personality," says Ann. "I sometimes wonder who saved who."
This 60-pound fellow loves to cuddle and sleeps in bed with his pet parents. "He hogs the bed," says Ann affectionately. The three get up together. "Then he goes into the kitchen by the cabinet and waits for dog biscuits. But there is a catch," she explains. "He has to go downstairs and kiss Grandma, which he does every morning, to get the biscuits."
"Ollie is the sweetest, most affectionate dog ever," Ann continues. "To quote Will Rogers, 'he never met a man (or woman) he didn't like.' Anyone who meets him, even for the shortest time, wants to take him home."
"He has grandma wrapped
around his paw."
A 60-pound Lap Dog
"He is such an affectionate dog," says Ann,
"that he loves to sit on my lap. It can be when we are watching TV" - something Ollie enjoys - "or at the kitchen table. If Mom and Dad say no, ask Grandma. He has grandma wrapped around his paw."
Ollie also loves belly rubs and "actually smiles when he gets them," Ann reports. "It really is quite funny."
When Ollie isn't lap hopping, he engages in a variety of activities. "Some days he runs in the backyard, looking for his dog friends," Ann says. "Some days we play ball with him, one of his favorite pastimes. He still loves to go in his toy box and play with his toys on his own. He loves to go for walks, especially when the kids are at the bus stop. He has quite a fan club."
You're Welcome - to Kisses
"Ollie is a terrific welcoming committee," Ann says. "He is waiting for me to come home from work each day as if his doggie watch is set for that time. I walk through the door and Ollie is exuberant! He just can't wait to give you a big sloppy kiss.
Ollie's "most favorite place" is the dog park. "Here he can be free," says Ann, "run to his heart's content, kiss all the other dog owners and play with a wide range of dogs, not to mention playing catch with us. It used to be when he saw the park he would start crying and howling in the car. Now he starts when we get off the parkway."
Ollie and BLUE
"Ollie loves BLUE food and it shows," says Ann. "His coat is soft like velvet, his teeth are white as snow. He is a healthy and happy pampered pooch!"
